Who We Are / What We Do …
Let’s begin by understanding that even 5th graders can conduct an honest, open, transparent, measurable “election,” and then re-examine the ballots and agree on a final count. None of that is “partisan.”
The conduct of an election across 21 counties of a state is not that much different. But officials will tell us the complexities are so great that only “experts” can run an election today.
Not true.
In 2020, everyday people, volunteers across NJ, saw things happening with NJ elections that were puzzling and concerning. Talking with one another, we began to meet, read the law, do research and study New Jersey’s election systems and voter rolls.
We all know a family member who moved long ago, but still receives a Sample Ballot at the old address. Or “Gramps”, who passed away, but might still get a mail-in ballot. Loose mail-in ballots compromise elections.
After these years, our NJ coalition members are true experts. We meet and talk to county elections officials. We examine the voter rolls for anomalies, then share our observations and questions with county or state officials. We answer questions. We volunteer as Poll Workers and as election observers (“Challengers”). We coordinate with volunteer election integrity teams in other states and at the national level. We attend and host training conferences. We file litigation when abuses require Judicial review. We analyze election data. We educate voters.
In short, we are simply neighbors and engaged citizens who want to assure that every person who is legally entitled to vote is able to cast that vote in every election in New Jersey.
At the same time, it’s fair to realize that in the political realm, there are always power struggles. Regardless of political party, or skin color, or religious belief, or personal behavioral traits – we live in a world where people misbehave.
Elections are tempting targets, because “winners” get to hold public office that can offer great influence and opportunity.
So we should not be surprised that there will always be some who seek ways to manipulate an election to boost their personal advantage – ALL political parties. ALL races and genders.
But there are others who are honest, do not seek personal gain, and try to make elections fair and transparent, so that the only thing determining the outcome is who received the greatest number of legal votes.
That’s who we are. Will you join us?
Will You Pray ?
One more request. Will you pray for all elected representatives, and candidates for elected office, in New Jersey? God tells us we should.
We should pray that God will bless them with health; with wisdom; with integrity; with concern and sensitivity for others. And we should pray for honesty to surround our systems, and for God to instill within all who touch or work within our election systems to devote themselves to keeping those systems “neutral,” and not give advantage to any person or group. Thank you.
Christian Principles
Our daily lives get so busy that most folks practice the “Cliff Notes(TM)” path of citizenship – go for the most obvious but skip over the detail. Our volunteers engage. They study, learn, question, help, volunteer, and take their citizenship seriously.
The Bible is God’s Word, and His teaching tells us we do have a responsibility to engage in the decisions and policy of government. The pursuit of Liberty is the ongoing practice of engaging in influencing decisions about our daily lives.
Decisions: Football or School Board?
We are called upon to engage. Certainly, it looks like more fun to go to a sports event or party than to attend a school board or town council meeting. But whose responsibility is it to achieve “good governance?”
You might say, we get what we pay for (via your investment of time & energy in helping steer, guide and select good and moral leaders and assure that our elections are honest, fair, transparent, can pass audit tests, and that the processes used can be seen and understood by all).
